![]() It successfully wraps up all of the major plot points in a way that feels natural. The conclusion to The Ballad of Olive Silverlockalso works well as a conclusion to the entire series. This gives the adventure some thematic meaning to pair with the action and intensity. The volume suggests that this problem can be overcome with the help of those around you and shows how ineffectual it is to attempt to isolate yourself from this help. ![]() This struggle is evocative of the struggle most children go through as they mature past adolescence, as they are assailed with unfamiliar emotions and constantly fear that they will end up exactly the same as their parents. It has Olive go through an intense struggle for control over her own power, something that her friends attempt to help her with. This entire adventure is a satisfying continuation to the central narrative of this entire series. These activities give this volume the highest stakes this comic has ever seen, as a few characters are shot at and Kyle ends up seriously burned. Meanwhile, the members of the Detective Club work on figuring out a way to save Olive and separate her from Calamity’s spirit. It has Olive/Calamity visit members of Gotham’s criminal underworld and threaten to burn them alive. ![]() Luckily, things improve as the volume picks up the Calamity story arc from the previous volume. Though each member of the Club has a brief moment to express their strengths, the adventure, as a whole, is pretty forgettable. It is a flashback to events that took place before the Second Semester series began that has the Detective Club deal with a malevolent circus visiting Gotham Academy. The Ballad of Olive Silverlockstarts out with its most lackluster chapter. Despite this, in the end, this is still a worthwhile volume for anyone hungry for a conclusion to the mysteries of this series. The volume starts out with a mediocre flashback and offers readers very little in terms of an epilogue. It, unfortunately, is not without problem though. The entire volume also does well in delivering readers a satisfying conclusion to large narrative threads that have been present since Gotham Academy began. It has high-stakes adventure, exciting action, and some interesting messages about developing past adolescence. 2: The Ballad of Olive Silverlock, by Brenden Fletcher, Becky Cloonan, and Karl Kerschl, is a solid conclusion to this series. ![]() Anyone who cares about the narrative of this series or its characters should continue their reading experience with this volume. There are a few problems along the way but nothing serious enough to truly damage the collection as a whole. The entire volume also works well as a sendoff for this comic and the characters within it. The story here is entertaining, it has exciting stakes all the way through, and it contains a nice message about adolescence. Overall: The final volume in the Gotham Academy series ends things in a positive fashion, for the most part. There are a few places where the artwork falters. Most of the volume’s artwork looks good.Ĭons: The volume starts with a pretty lackluster chapter. The book’s conclusion ties things together well and works as a conclusion for the series as a whole. Pros: The majority of the book is entertaining and addresses the most compelling mystery in this series. ![]() While hot, crumble feta over the top of the cooked tart and allow to cool slightly, then sprinkle with chopped walnuts. You don't need to blanch the asparagus first, the heat from the oven will cook it through perfectly. Some people sprinkle it on buttered toast or on their salads as well. It adds an authentic cheese-like flavour to sauces, whilst also thickening. No self-respecting vegan would be caught without Nooch in their store cupboard. I added some sauteed spring onions and a little fresh Thyme, then stirred this into my cream cheeze, along with some Dijon Mustard and thickened (and flavoured!) with nutritional yeast. This has no egg in it, rather a creamy saucy base made with vegan cream cheese (I prefer Violife), but in this instance I used Tesco's own vegan version. Saute the bacon in a skillet over medium. Prick the bottom of the crust with a fork and bake for 10 minutes. Place the frozen pie crust onto a baking sheet. How do you make vegan Asparagus Tart?Īs with many vegan recipes that rely on egg or dairy replacers, they are often much simpler than their non-veggie counterpart. Directions Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. I have also made a more traditional but vegan quiche using asparagus here. And it keeps in the fridge (I had just had a slice for lunch). It is wonderful warm but great cold as well. Combine the mascarpone, 1 1/4 teaspoons of the salt, the flour, egg and lemon zest, and then fold in the chives and tarragon. The custard will not have set solid but instead is wobbly, creamily firm, almost like a soufflé. Leave to cool for ten minutes then cut into soft, squidgy slices. ![]() The Asparagus spears will have bobbed to the top and scorched beautifully in places. The tart is simple to make, particularly if you use pre-rolled puff pastry. It just adds another layer of savoury-ness that is sublime. My one concession to any additional flavouring was a cheezy savoury custard to cradle the asparagus. New season Asparagus needs no such fripperies yet. I toyed with different variations: adding some frozen peas, new potatoes. Katie over at Wholefood Soul Food Kitchen has a beautifully simple asparagus salad that just makes the natural flavor sing. For now though, it is another welcome treat from Spring. Later on in the season, the stalk will become woody and you will snap more and more of it off before preparation. How to make Asparagus Tart Assemble the asparagus puff pastry recipe: Spread mushrooms and asparagus mixture on top. There is nothing like eating a stick of asparagus in the car, revelling in the slightly bitter ‘flower’ and marvelling at the sweetness of the stalk, so sweet that it almost tastes like pea pods. And whether or not McKay was raped, he was certainly sexually assaulted in that scene. As one person on Reddit, u/thenwefell, noted: “ He was still sexually assaulted even if they didn’t rape him… That went way farther than hazing.” The important point is that whether or not McKay was actually raped, he was seriously traumatized by what happened. ![]() I think the show purposefully left it vague so viewers could decide for themselves. Others think it was hazing and he was assaulted but not actually raped. Some think he was raped by those guys in the quick scene that a character also filmed while it was happening. Then he insisted they have sex when he finally pulled himself together and left the bathroom. He locked himself in the bathroom after they left and cried for a long time while Cassie was sitting on the bed. It was left up to the viewers to figure out exactly what happened to McKay. McKay was attacked by eight naked/semi-naked frat guys who pushed him to the ground while McKay was naked and climbed on top of him while yelling “McGay!” and simulating sex acts. There's also "Dead of Night," a dreamy, slow-moving song by Orville Peck that gives Nate and Cassie's hypnotic car ride an almost Lynchian feeling. The expertly placed use of Nate's theme ("Nate Growing Up" by Labrinth) is a standout, as is Steely Dan's "Dirty Work," which underscores how surreal the meetup at Laurie's house has gotten as the group gets dressed after the wire check. Rue heads to the party like nothing has happened, but we're definitely worried about her, even if she isn't.īest Musical Moment: This episode features a whole jukebox worth of needle drops. Fez - no stranger to trauma himself, as we've just seen - yells at her for not taking the whole thing seriously. In the car afterwards, still-high Rue chatters on about the incident, smiling. The monotone, pet-obsessed woman asks questions about Rue, before giving Fezco a suitcase of pills. In the end, Fezco's introduction to Laurie goes well enough. This show is full of traumatic moments, but the new episode ups the ante for future therapy fuel considerably. He drags her into the bathroom, where he turns the shower on her and makes her undress anyway. The worst part comes when Rue hesitates to strip. He demands everyone get naked to prove they're not wearing a wire, then alternates between dancing around the kitchen and smashing peoples' heads into walls. The culprit is a guy named Bruce (Melvin "Bonez" Estes), who brings them into Laurie's house. ![]() Please ask a mod to look into it providing a link ( use 'comments' as the link, it helps to identify the post ). ![]() If you think your post is not showing, it may be due to the spam filter. you are able to watch Silent Witness - Season 24 streaming on BritBox. Netflix also has plans to capitalise on the show's craze by expanding into a chess-based mobile game, which will be available soon exclusively to subscribers. Anya Taylor-Joy-led The Queen's Gambit - released in 2020 - climbed up the ranks with 112.8 million views, and is now in fifth place the limited series wasn't even on the list before. There were some interesting new additions to the list as well. With the length now extended to 91 days, it can still climb its way to the Top 10 list with enough promotion from Netflix. Most other shows had a minimum of eight episodes and the 28-day period seems to have not been enough for the series to show its prowess. The new view-based ranking system places it at the No. Wednesday, on the other hand, only has eight episodes with a total runtime of 6 hours and 49 minutes, tracking 1.7 billion hours watched. While the latter clearly has more hours viewed (1.8 billion), you need to take its whopping 13-hour-long runtime into consideration, which managed to push it over other shows as per the previous ranking system. The shift has caused some significant changes to the Top 10 rankings, with the Jenna Ortega-led Wednesday overtaking Stranger Things season 4 as the most-viewed English-language series of all time. “We heard feedback that only providing hours viewed on our Top 10 lists was hard to contextualise, so over the last few months we started to share the views for a good number of our titles,” Netflix said in a blog post. Furthermore, the company has stretched the measurement window from 28 days to 91 days, which would give movies and shows more time to grow. Previously, its Top 10 lists were simply based on hours watched, which was an inaccurate portrayal of a title's success, since the ones with the longest runtime or more episodes would stay at the top. The streamer will now rank its programming's average viewership as 'views', which is hours viewed divided by the runtime of the film or series. Netflix is making changes to its viewership measurement system, for better transparency. ![]() The difference is primarily due to motives assisting humanity to utilize one or the other item. The most common use of sigmoidoscopy is to assess your disease activity once you’ve been diagnosed with UC. This lets your doctor examine the full extent of your disease and make sure that the end of your small intestine isn’t affected, which could indicate Crohn’s disease rather than UC.īut if you have severe disease, the guidelines state that a sigmoidoscopy can be performed instead of a colonoscopy to diagnose UC, since a colonoscopy carries a greater risk of perforation (making a hole in your colon) - a rare but serious risk of both procedures that’s higher when your colon is already more damaged. The latest guidelines from the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) on diagnosing and treating UC, published in 2019 in The American Journal of Gastroenterology, recommend performing a complete colonoscopy to diagnose UC in most cases. This allows your doctor to look at the inside of your colon, as well as to take a biopsy (tissue sample) that will be examined under a microscope to look for changes typical of UC, along with signs of other health conditions, according to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. If your doctor initially suspects that you have UC based on your symptoms and blood tests, you’ll need to have either a colonoscopy or a sigmoidoscopy to have your condition diagnosed. RELATED: 7 Ways to Prevent Colon Cancer When Is a Sigmoidoscopy Performed for UC?Ī sigmoidoscopy may be performed in a number of different situations to diagnose or evaluate your UC. That means not everyone with UC will be an ideal candidate for a sigmoidoscopy as a substitute for a colonoscopy. “It’s not able to look at inflammation on the right side of the colon, look for polyps elsewhere, look into your small intestine,” says Dr. Of course, the more limited nature of a sigmoidoscopy also carries certain disadvantages. “A lot of the unpleasantness in a colonoscopy is from trying to get to the end of the colon,” explains Ashwin Ananthakrishnan, MBBS, a gastroenterologist at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Instead, he says, most people only require one or two enemas several hours before their sigmoidoscopy to flush out stool from the area.Īnother difference is that while sedation is generally recommended for a colonoscopy, it’s typically considered optional for a sigmoidoscopy. “Unlike a colonoscopy, one typically does not have to consume an oral lavage solution to entirely clean out the colon,” Click explains. But it’s only extended through the left side of your colon, which consists of the two areas leading up to your rectum: the descending colon and the sigmoid colon.īecause it only involves the last few segments of your colon, a sigmoidoscopy doesn’t require as much preparation as a colonoscopy.
